Action Groups
Following the Wilton Park Strategy Workshop six initial Action Groups were established, as outlined in the Outcomes Report. These are:
- Conflict and humanitarian settings;
- Rule of law and governance;
- Migration;
- Rural economy;
- Commercial sexual exploitation; and
- Supply chains.
Each Action Group will also be holding workshops in the coming
months to develop their work plans. So far, the Conflict and
Humanitarian Settings and the Supply Chains Action groups held workshops
in New York and Berlin respectively.
Alliance 8.7 Knowledge Platform
We are pleased to announce that initial funding for the
establishment of the Alliance 8.7 Knowledge Platform has been provided
by the UK and US governments.
The United Nations University was recently awarded more than 1
million pounds from the United Kingdom’s Modern Slavery Innovation Fund
towards the development of the Alliance 8.7 Knowledge Platform. The
International Labour Organization was awarded almost 10 million dollars
to support Alliance 8.7 activities by extending the evidence base on
forced labour and child labour and to support the Knowledge Platform.
The Alliance 8.7 Knowledge Platform will help accelerate the
generation, exchange and uptake of knowledge about how to achieve SDG
Target 8.7 within the Alliance, and help ensure that the Alliance’s
efforts are based on a sound understanding of what works.
Regional Consultations
Two regional consultations took place in June to identify common
challenges and priorities in achieving SDG Target 8.7. The event reports
will be shortly available under the events section of the Alliance 8.7 website.
- Consultation with selected countries of Sub Saharan Africa, 22-23 June, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
- Consultation with selected countries of Europe and Central Asia, 29-30 June, Budapest, Hungary.
UN General Assembly
Planning is underway to launch the 2017 Global Estimates of Modern Slavery and Child Labour during Leaders’ Week of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly and to present the reports as a collaborative effort under Alliance 8.7.
The high-level event in New York will call for renewed global
action to achieve SDG Target 8.7 and set the stage for commitments to be
pledged at the IV Global Conference on Child Labour and Forced Labour,
to be held from 14-16 November 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Sincerely,
Alliance 8.7 Secretariat
